Located right on State Road 62 overlooking the most majestic river in Indiana (and maybe the country) is The Overlook Restaurant. It is the most beautiful place to dine in the entire Hoosier state.
While the current Leavenworth is located on a cliff, there was a previous town, known as "Old Leavenworth," that washed away in a flood in 1937. The bluff offered a safe haven for the town to regroup.
This bluff-top restaurant opened in 1948 as a cafe and grocery store. In 1929, it grew to include a chicken hatchery, a gas station, and a Greyhound bus stop.
It has also grown from a restaurant that seated 36 to one that now seats 160 guests. Enjoy one of the dining rooms, Walter's Pub in the basement, or the patio outside for 20 miles of panoramic views of the Ohio River where you can watch barges glide up and down the water as you enjoy your meal or drink.
Menu items include familiar comfort foods you know and love. Fried chicken, burgers, fried fish, ribs, and much more grace the menu. This bluff-top restaurant also serves soups and salads as well as sides and appetizers like cheese fries, fried pickle spears, and breaded mushrooms.
In addition to amazing savory treats at this restaurant, the sweat treats are worth saving room for. Chocolate cake, cobbler, pie, and cheesecake will make your meal complete (and let you enjoy a little more time with those views).
Walter's Pub also offers some amazing items. In addition to a full bar, there is also a menu of delicious appetizers and sandwiches to enjoy.
The pub is open for limited hours. Friday hours are 4-9 p.m. while Saturday is 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
