This fall, you deserve to be at one of the absolute best apple festivals in the Hoosier State. Home to the biggest apple pie you’ve ever seen, this wonderful celebration of all things fall is the perfect way to kick-start this special season.
For some wholesome Indiana fun, mark your calendars for this annual festival that’s been going on for more than 40 years. Scroll on for more details.
The Nappanee Apple Festival will take place September 13-16, 2018 for the 43rd year in a row. Like any good fair, there are a plethora of different activities to enjoy, and you're going to want to see them all.
This festival is always held during the third weekend of the month of September, and it attracts locals of Elkhart County and beyond. It began back in 1975 and has grown over the years to become one of the most popular events of the year in the Hoosier State.
The main attraction is this 7-foot pie. It is certainly the biggest apple pie in the state, and there's enough to cut about 800 slices. The 600-pound behemoth is baked up just in time for the start of the festival.
Guests will enjoy about 20 different food vendors as well as rides, games, and live entertainment on two different stages. You have four days starting on Thursday at 5 p.m. to eat and play your way through this epic carnival.
In addition to pie, you'll also find apple fritters, apple dumplings, apple turnovers, apple fry pies, apple bread, applesauce, apple cider, and apple butter. It can be difficult to decide what not to buy.
Other events that draw out crowds are the parade and the 5K marathon. Locals line the streets to watch these passing attractions. For kids, there will also be puppet shows, a live animal show, and cider-making demonstrations.
For the competitive at heart, there will also be a pageant, an apple baking contest, an apple peeling and pie-eating contest, and a cornhole tournament.
Other traditional events include a military aircraft fly-over and an antique tractor and engine show. These old-fashioned events really attract the crowds and offer a great deal of excitement and memories to last a lifetime.
A tractor pull will take place a few days prior on September 8, 2018.
About 80,000 people are expected to attend the Nappanee Apple Festival, making this one of the largest festivals in the state. Stop by for a slice of this giant pie or any number of other apple-themed treats and activities.
