Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Hiking is a favorite pastime of millions of Americans all over the nation; it’s easy to see why. It’s wonderful to get outside for a while and clear your thoughts, but unfortunately, we can’t always run away to the forest or the dunes any time we feel like it. Sometimes, an in-town hike will have to do – and in that case, why not check out the B&O Bike Trail? It’s probably the best hike in Indianapolis and best of all, it’s super easy and paved the whole day, making it perfect for kids and anyone with mobility concerns. It’s scenic despite being nestled in the city, and I personally love it for a quick jaunt.
The B&O Bike Trail is primarily used by folks just hoping to take a nice, peaceful walk, instead of bicyclists - though bicyclists can also be found here.
It's just over two miles long, and the entirety of it is paved and/or solid concrete. It's bike, stroller, wheelchair and mobility aid friendly (woo hoo!).
Every season brings with it something to love; in the winter, it's typically quiet, especially in the mornings when covered in a layer of snow. In spring, surrounding foliage bursts back to life in living color (as shown above).

During the summer, the trail is framed by lush greenery and plenty of shade.
You'll pass the Speedway, which is easily Indiana's most famous attraction, pulling in more than 250,000 revelers during the famed Indianapolis 500. At this time, anticipate that the road crossings you'll occasionally come by will be very busy - because they will!
For most of the year, however, it's nice and peaceful, with little hustle and bustle and a lot of chill.
Traverse it early in the morning during the week and you're unlikely to run into anyone else. Personally, I absolutely adore having a trail to myself. It's just so peaceful.
So come on out to the B&O Bike Trail in Indianapolis.
It's perfect in the event that you want to get outside and enjoy without leaving the city.
