Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Of the 24 state parks in Indiana, I’m pretty sure Versailles State Park might somehow be one of the less-frequented. That being said, those of us who DO know it’s here know just how magical it is – especially for a camping adventure like none other. Who needs resorts when we’ve got campgrounds as epic as Versailles Campground? Come out and see why Versailles Campground, one of my personal faves, is among the best campgrounds in Indiana!
To claim that Versailles State Park is "pretty" is to do it a tremendous disservice.
Campsites here are spacious and nicely spaced apart, without crowding but with the ability to accommodate up to 238 spots. Sometimes - but not always - the campground fills up, so be sure to book your stay well in advance, just in case.

Additionally, 219 of the sites available are electric.
Nine are equestrian electric sites, three are for youth tents, and there are six shelter options as well. And if you're bringing the kids, I have even better news: there's a full-sized pool right on the grounds complete with a water slide. It's open during the warm months, obviously, and it takes this entire campground and cranks it up to 11 on the fun factor.
Versailles State Park is easily one of the most picturesque places in all of southeastern Indiana. As Indiana's second-largest state park, it's fairly easy to avoid the crowds - especially because they'll all be at more popular parks, but not you. Not now that you know the secret.
The crystal-clear, sparkling 230-acre lake is visible from most of the campsites, and it adds unparalleled beauty to an already postcard-esque backdrop.
This gorgeous place is, in my opinion, a top contender for the spot of best campground near Versailles, Indiana. There are lots of places to camp while you're in the Hoosier State, but I strongly recommend this one.
It's a pretty friendly place, too, so plan on making friends.
After all, you'll be surrounded - though reasonably spaced out from - lots of other folks, so be sure to come with an open heart. You'll leave with many new friends if you play your cards right.
