Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Indiana is an excellent state for anyone who loves the great outdoors. Truly, with 24 incredible state parks (so far) and thousands of miles of amazing hiking trails to explore the entire state by, it’s no secret as to why outdoor activities are a favorite in the Hoosier State. I’ve covered a lot of campsites and campgrounds in Indiana over the years, but today, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate one that ISN’T an official “campground”. It’s a road within one of Indiana’s most beautiful parks where dispersed camping is welcome – and it’s absolutely beautiful! Turns out, the best campground near English Indiana, isn’t a campground at all… but I love it all the same. Come see!
Welcome to Sycamore Springs Park, where nature and humanity collide in the most beautiful of ways.
Honestly, ALL of Sycamore Springs Park is wondrous and awe-inspiring, and I can't judge anyone for making the stay their own. Pick from established campsites (best for RVs especially) or do as I do and check out the dispersed camping options.
The laws vary as to what's okay and where, but here, there's a specific place that's quite popular among dispersed campers: Mitchell Creek Road, which you'll find within the park with minimal effort.
There are no fire rings, no restrooms, and hardly any cell service...
...but I personally think that's what roughing it is all about. It's about seeing what we're capable of in the great outdoors, and by far the greatest way to enjoy it is by pitching an old-fashioned tent (or turning your vehicle into a rolling bedroom).
While you can reserve campsites at the official campgrounds within Sycamore Springs Park, the dispersed campsites are first come, first served.
So be sure to get here early and set up - it's a delight to have you!
