When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
It’s no secret that Indiana is home to plenty of Amish country, and if there’s a community that absolutely kills it at hospitality, it’s them! The local Amish folks love sharing their culture with us English (read: non-Amish) folks, and there’s no better place to experience it for yourself than the gorgeous small town of Shipshewana, Indiana. So, come out and explore – plus, I found what might just be the best cabin rental near Shipshewana, so there’s no excuse not to stay a while! Check it out!
Shipshewana, Indiana, is a gorgeous small town that's proud of its Amish roots.
Shipshewana Flea Market (May-Sept), 345 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, IN 46565, USA
There are plenty of wonderful things to do while you're here. For example, if you're a fan of bargains, you'll definitely want to take at least half a day and explore the Shipshewana Flea Market.
Once you've killed some hours finding all the best bargains on things like Amish furniture, foods, and more, you can meander to one of the many nearby natural attractions to spend the rest of your day.
Lake Wawasee, Turkey Creek Township, IN 46567, USA
The St. Joseph River is gorgeous and it's less than a half-hour from town. Alternatively, you aren't terribly far from Lake Wawasee, either, which just so happens to be the largest natural lake in Indiana. Of course, after all this, you're sure to be tired - and I found the perfect place to get some rest!

Its name - Haven of Rest - is perfect. This stunning little escape from real life is smack-dab in the center of some serious acreage. It's got floor-to-ceiling windows, a fire pit, and luxurious vaulted ceilings, among other things.
One thing that's important to note: this cabin does not have wifi. This is a getaway meant to be a real escape, so relax and unplug for a while. After all, there's plenty more to do.
The next day, you ought to look into some other must-see spots in Shipshewana, like the legendary old Menno Yoder Polygonal Barn.
Menno-Hof, 510 S Van Buren St, Shipshewana, IN 46565, USA
Built in 1908, it's a fascinating glimpse into the history of this beautiful little town and the folks who have called it home. You might also want to go check out the Menno-Hof Museum to learn more.
Finally, if you need a little more of the great outdoors, you can't skip a visit to Shipshewana Lake Park.
This delightful little park in Indiana has a lake of its own, and it's definitely lovely enough to dip your toes in and cool off for the rest of the afternoon.
