Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Want to get away for a little while and find yourself craving the woods? I do the same thing. And, luckily for us, when it comes to all the most unique places to stay in Indiana, we have a whole bunch of options – all of which are awesome in their own ways. Should you be craving an escape in the woods, I found what might just be the best vintage cabin rental in Hoosier National Forest – it’s old-school, but new-school at the same time, and I think you’ll love it.
Look at it. Just look at it: this glorious, three-story cabin is 2500 glorious square feet of vintage wonder.
It's a low-key, relaxed place, and it's not surprising - it IS a river house, after all. And with rivers come pure relaxation on a spiritual level... I mean, at least for me. But since you're here, I'm going to assume it's the same for you, too - so you get me. It's refreshing, isn't it?
With luxurious Adirondack chairs overlooking the Ohio River circled around a fire pit that'll keep you warm on chilly nights, it's tough to say you won't be lulled to sleep by the ever-present sound of the rushing river.
It's nestled within the gorgeous Hoosier National Forest, where you'll find natural wonders galore, incredible camping, and some of the downright best hiking in the state. The forest consists of 204,000 beautiful acres of wonder - and this not-so-little cabin is an excellent home base for exploring it.
Not wanting to stray too far? No worries - enjoy the hot tub on-site with the stunning forest views. My favorite time to come out is at night, when the sounds of the woods will be somehow both noisy and serene.
For more photos and/or to book your stay at this big, gorgeous old cabin, be sure to check out the official VRBO listing. There are so many wonderful things to do around here that you’ll never get bored – after all, French Lick is less than an hour away.
Do you have any favorite Ohio River escapes? Tell me about them in the comments.
