Indiana is pretty awesome, isn’t it? I mean, I think I can speak for most Hoosiers when I say that anyone who hates this place either grew up here and never left (in which case, bloom where you’re planted – Indiana is awesome!) or they’ve simply never been here in the first place (in which case, that’s just, like, your opinion, man). Many of the small towns in Indiana are an absolute delight, and they all come filled top-to-bottom with amazing natural attractions, too. Take, for example, the town of Bloomington. It’s gorgeous, and it makes for an awesome day trip. Let’s plan one – and I’ve even gone ahead and found the downright best cabin rental in Bloomington, Indiana to rest our heads while we’re here.
Bloomington, Indiana, is southwest of Indianapolis and is technically the 7th-largest city in the state.
Bloomington Arboretum, E 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47405, USA
But, given its population of under 80,000, Bloomington absolutely qualifies as a small town when compared to even small cities with three times the population. It's a friendly place where there's always something going on.
Lovers of the natural world will enjoy a visit to Indiana University's enchanting Arboretum - but don't wander too far! There's a whole day to be had.
One of the many must-dos while you're here include the legendary Bloomington Farmers Market, which sees thousands of visitors per year and is one of the town's oldest pastimes.
It's easily one of the most popular markets in Indiana thanks to its large size and numerous vendors. It's located conveniently close to the city of Indianapolis without being IN the city, and it's a much-loved spot for locals and visitors alike to gather and enjoy. For more information about the market, visit the official City of Bloomington website.

Bloomington is also home to some truly excellent wineries that rival some of Europe's best; if you didn't realize Indiana has wine country, I'm about to blow your mind.
Oliver Winery, 200 E Winery Rd, Bloomington, IN 47404, USA
There is more than one winery in Bloomington, but the fan favorite among visitors and natives appears to definitely be Oliver Winery, which offers tastings and tours. You won't be able to resist taking a bottle or three home with you!
This utterly gorgeous little thing is easily the best cabin rental in Bloomington Indiana, and it's perfect for our little escape. This two-bedroom, one-bathroom jewel sleeps up to five, so it's excellent for families and even solo outings.
The décor is somehow both modern and rustic, with an awesome little twist that's sure to make this cabin your new favorite getaway.
With amenities like a washer and dryer, an equipped kitchen, an outdoor fireplace and even a hiking trail, this wonderful stay is one of those that's gonna stay with you a while - you'll find yourself dreaming of when you get to come back. It's a treat!
Of course, the places worth visiting in and around Bloomington don't start and finish with the above-mentioned ideas; there are countless more.
For example, did you know that there's an abandoned observatory in Indiana and it's in Bloomington's woods? It's awesome! I also can't recommend Bloomington's natural wonders enough; Monroe Lake (pictured above) is a must-do.
So, what are your thoughts? What’s your favorite small town in Indiana? Let me know – I love hearing about your favorite places. You never know; you might see me write about yours next.
