When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
If there’s anything I love about Indiana (okay, it’s a lot of things – but bear with me), it’s that the great outdoors here truly are exactly that: great. There are well over 1,000 amazing hiking trails in Indiana that make it easy (or sometimes challenging) to explore by foot. If you’re anything like I am, you might prefer quieter, less-traveled trails – and in that case, I’ve found one you’ll definitely be interested in learning about. This gorgeous, secluded hike in Indiana is perfect for most hikers, as it’s pretty easy. It’s so quiet around here that there’s a good chance you’ll have the hike all to yourself – especially if you show up in the morning and during the week. Let’s go!
Welcome to Boot Lake Nature Preserve, a lesser-known gem in Indiana with plenty of wonderful trails to check out.
It consists of 300 acres of prairie, wetlands, and forest. It's absolutely beautiful and, thanks to its relative obscurity, there's a good chance you'll have the place to yourself during your hike.
At 3.1 miles long and rated as easy, this hike is suitable for most hikers of all experience levels.
It's a truly beautiful little spot, and it might just be one of the best-kept secrets in Indiana. It's almost a shame that it's so little known - but that's also all the better for us.
There are four trails around here, but the one I'm talking about is the main trail, though you can do any of them (they're all wonderful).
Be sure to wear good shoes (some of the trail is made up of boardwalks, but some can get muddy), and pack plenty of water. If you're hoping to bring your pup, you're in luck - dogs are allowed, though they must be kept on a leash.
Come out and see this gorgeous secluded hike in Indiana for yourself...
