It probably won’t take you long to come up with the right answer to this question “What’s the most frequent question you’re ever asked about Indiana?” If you’re stuck, though, put yourself in the situation I found myself in recently: you’re stepping outside your door to get the mail and bump into your neighbor who recently moved here from California. Does he ask you one of the following:
1. Do you guys just eat corn?
Well, actually we have a lot more to offer than just corn. There is more than corn in Indiana, I promise. Indiana does sell 4 billion in corn per year. It's our top commodity.
2. Is it true that you can't buy alcohol on Sundays?
You can buy alcohol as long as it's not carry out.
3. Are you a Colts fan?
Absolutely!
4. Where do you get that accent from?
I dunno. 🙂
5. What's a Hoosier?
A hoosier is someone that lives in Indiana. It actually comes from the word hoosa.....hoosa means corn. Go figure!
6. Do you actually eat pork rinds?
That answer is different for every person.
7. Are you a farmer?
Not all people who live in Indiana are farmers. We have roughly 200,000 farmers.
8. What's the big deal about the Indy 500?
It's an annual tradition that brings our state a lot of pride, business and value.
Then my neighbor from California decides to ask “Do people ask you these questions all the time?”
“Yes, sir, yes they do.”
What do people ask you about? Please tell us!
