One of the stereotypes about Illinois is that we have some bad drivers. But sometimes, stereotypes are true. We get in a lot of accidents. Based on data from the Illinois Department of Transportation Crash Statistics, we’re counting down the top 10 counties in Illinois with the worst drivers.
There were 137,000 crashes in Cook County, resulting in 27,000 injuries and 200 fatalities.
In DuPage County, there were almost 20,000 accidents, including 4,500 injuries and 25 fatalities.

There were 13,000 accidents in Lake County, with 3,000 injuries and 30 fatalities.

In Kane County, there were just under 10,000 crashes, with 2,500 injuries and 27 fatalities.
Down in Champaign County, there are 3,000 traffic accidents a year. In this particular year, it resulted in 700 injuries and 17 fatalities.

Kankakee County drivers experience 2100 crashes each year, with 500 injuries and 12 fatalities.
Over in LaSalle County, there are 2,000 crashes each year, resulting in 450 injuries and 10 fatalities.
In Kendall County, there are just around 1,700 car crashes each year. This resulted in about 400 injuries and seven fatalities.

Down in Jackson County, there were 1,300 car crashes, including 300 injuries and 4 fatalities.
