I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
With hotter and humid weather upon us, it’s time to decide where to cool off. We could always stay indoors with the air conditioning but who wants to do that after being cooped up all winter? Lakes, rivers, pools, and water parks are also great options, but what about a short hike to a waterfall that spills right into a lovely little pool? If that sounds like a good idea to you, then make your way to Ferne Clyffe State Park in Goreville.
Ferne Clyffe State Park is home to a beautiful intermittent waterfall that can be found along a short trail. In fact, this out-and-back trail is only 0.7-miles long and easy enough for children to hike along.
Once you get to the waterfall, you'll be amazed at the sight, especially if you're there after a rainfall. This 100-foot waterfall is intermittent so it will look more impressive on certain days and not on others.
The waterfall spills right into a gorgeous little pool below. This pool is a bit shallow for a full-on swim but it's certainly good enough for wading, splashing, and cooling off.
