Here in Illinois, there are certain things that you will find in our homes that make us who we are. And while some of these items appear in the homes of our neighbor states, it’s just not the same as when they appear in Illinois homes. The following are 12 undeniable things you’ll (probably) find in nearly every Illinois home.
1. Ice scraper
Eeeeesh. I hate to even think about it, but snow is around the corner. Time to get those ice scrapers in the car just so you aren't left in the lurch.
2. A snow shovel
Yes, with all that snow, a snow shovel is a must. Don't be cheap, get that quality snow shovel.
3. Bears gear
Win or lose (guys, it's gonna be a long season...), Illinois can come together and root for the Bears. Everyone has some Bears gear.
4. Pop
Dude, it's called pop. Not soda. Pop.
5. Ranch dressing
People from Illinois love ranch dressing. On everything. Including pizza. What? I still don't get that.
6. Leftover Steak n Shake
When we don't feel like making dinner, we don't give a second thought to going through the drive thru at Steak n Shake. Sometimes we order too much and we can enjoy the leftovers the next day.
7. Corn hole
One of the best parts of summer are those outdoor yard games like corn hole. This is a common occurrence at Illinois barbecues and family get-togethers.
8. Puppy chow
Who invented the idea of puppy chow? I don't know, but it's incredible.
9. Yard bags
With leaves and regular yard waste, these things are always in use and always coming in handy.
10. Corn holders
We LOVE our corn. I swear there are probably forty of these things floating around in my utensil drawer.
11. Fleece blanket with knotted ends
I don't know why, but for some reason, fleece blankets are in every Midwestern home, including Illinois homes. These knotted ones seem to be made by girls ages 8-13 everywhere.
12. A welcome mat
No Illinois home is complete without a mat that welcomes you in. Illinois homes are welcoming!
