H.H. Holmes, the very first serial killer in the United States, may have met his end in 1896 after terrorizing the Chicago area. However, that doesn’t mean his spirit rests. Halloween legend has it that Holmes has returned to his favorite burial spot in Elgin, ironically the site of Big Timber Campground, where his victims still remain. You can now drive through the Terror in the Timbers in Illinois…but be forewarned that Holmes’ spirit may be lurking in the shadows.
Brace yourself for an utterly terrifying adventure this October at Terror in the Timbers, a drive-thru Halloween attraction that's perfect for thrill-seekers age 10 and older.
Due to Illinois restrictions, only four passengers are allowed in any vehicle that drives through Terror in the Timbers.
While the trail is short, taking less than 30 minutes to complete, it's jam-packed with thrills. Once you enter the trail, turn off your headlights and turn on the radio station as instructed.
Slowly make your way, no more than five miles an hour, along that trail that's dotted with terrifyingly fun scenes. When you come across a new scene, you will see a red light, signaling you to put your car into park.
Terror in the Timbers will be held Friday and Saturday evenings throughout October and on Thursdays, beginning on October 22, 2020 from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Looking for something fun and safe the whole family can enjoy? The Terror in the Timbers also features a fun and scare-free Family Trick or Treat throughout October.
