Every Illinoisan knows that the best food in the state comes from those tiny hole-in-the-wall places that only the locals know exist. There’s a small bar & grill in Decatur, Illinois that fits that bill, and it absolutely belongs on your dining bucket list.
Gambling, live music, and daily specials keep the locals coming in time and again. Scroll on to learn more.
Pop's Place in central Illinois has been in business since 2008. It is known for its casual atmosphere, incredible staff, tasty eats, and soul-soothing blues music.
From the moment you walking inside, you'll be greeted by a spunky staff that will have you laughing and never let your glass run empty. The interior is simple and relaxed, making it a great place to stop by any night of the week.
This small bar & grill is all about entertainment. You'll find billiard games available regularly, and live entertainment is scheduled throughout each week. Known for blues tunes, this place is hopping every Sunday and most Saturdays.
The gambling parlor next door is called Mom's Place, and it features a full bar that serves drinks you can enjoy while you play the slots. If you feel like Lady Luck is on your side, stop in to see if you can win some extra dollars to put in your pocket.
When it comes to food, guests enjoy classic American fare like soups, salads, fried meats, burgers, and other sandwiches. Locals enjoy horseshoes, patty melts, wraps, tenderloins, tatter tots, onion rings, fried pickles, and a heck of a lot more.
Daily specials include jumbo chicken wings on Monday, chicken fried steak and potatoes on Tuesday, taco salad on Wednesday, road kill Thursdays, and fried fish Fridays, which allows patrons to choose from walleye, cod, or catfish.
Pop's Place (as well as the gambling parlor next door) is open daily. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Sunday.
