Glessner House in northern Illinois was built in 1887 and became a museum in 1966 to preserve the architecture and history of this old home.
While many houses were being constructed in the Victorian style, this was one of the first to depart from that style. The architecture of this building inspired many builders afterward.
During these uncertain times, the Glessner House is offering self-guided virtual tours of the house. You'll get to see every single room from top to bottom.
A National Historic Landmark, the home is inspired by the English medieval revival as well as Italian renaissance style architecture, which had not yet made its way to America.
The home is 17,000 square feet and filled to the brim with ornate fixtures. There are 11 fireplaces, seven staircases, five bedrooms in the main house and eight meant for servants, as well as five and a half bathrooms.
