Tourists flock to Downtown Galena to visit the shops and restaurants, but many don’t know about this amazing garden. Linmar Gardens is on privately-owned property just off Main Street, and the owners are kind enough to share the beauty with others. It’s a unique spot in Galena that you won’t want to miss!
The hillside garden overlooks the historic downtown area.
It's so secluded, you would never know it's there. Simply head two blocks from bustling Main Street to the much quieter Prospect Street to find it.
When you arrive, you'll find over three acres of natural beauty.
The owners work diligently to maintain the flourishing gardens. Though they could keep all of that beauty to themselves, they give tours so the public can enjoy it as well!
You can tour the gardens any day of the week.
Tours are held at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm Monday through Saturday and at 2:00 pm on Sundays. The $10 ticket price is incredibly reasonable for all of the gorgeous sights you are able to see!
One of the gardens is built in the ruins of an old church.
The "Sunken Garden" grows among the foundation of one of the oldest African-American churches in Illinois. It's a gorgeous and serene place to enjoy and reflect.
This amazing oasis is full of many different kinds of plants and flowers.
From hostas to daylilies and so much more, there is plenty of gorgeous plant life to take in. There are also gazebos and stone paths to explore.
One of the most impressive parts of the garden is the 20 foot waterfall.
The waterfall is one of the many water features on the property. You can also enjoy small brooks, ponds, and fountains.
Linmar Gardens is located at 504 S. Prospect Street in Galena; you can find more information here . Do you know of another secret garden in Illinois? Tell us about it in the comments.
