Overlooking the Mississippi River, this bluff-top oasis is a a historical attraction. There are 26 Native American burial mounds used by the Hopewell tribes between 200 and 500 CE. Fun things to do here include hiking, taking photos, enjoying the pavilion, and playing on the playground. It is located at Beecher St., East Dubuque, IL 61025.
This is the most well-known of Illinois' prehistoric attractions. Located in Collinsville, this historic site is directly across the Mississippi River from St. Louis. It spans 2,200 acres and is home to about 80 mounds. A Historical National Landmark, this place is perfect for hiking, views of the river, and history lessons.

This is a lesser-known Native Indiana burial ground that is fun to visit as it also includes a museum. There are about 10 mounds as well as two cemeteries and a platform mound, which is flat on the top. The museum opened in 1972 and is operated by the Illinois State Museum.
