I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
If you are someone who enjoys thrifting and antiquing, you know that the Prairie State is full of incredible shops to find one-of-a-kind treasures. Located in Pontiac, Pops Pop Up Shop is a specialty store providing collectibles, repurposed and refurbished antiques, custom lights and furniture, and Route 66 merchandise. Read on to find out more about this wonderful store.
If you're traveling along Illinois' Historic Route 66 through Pontiac, you'll find a wonderful antique shop in town. Pops Pop Up Shop has become a shopping destination for both Illinois residents and for those traveling along the Mother Road.
First established in 2018 in an 1840s home, owners Roger and Kathi Sutter know how to breathe life back into old items and pieces of furniture. By refurbishing and repurposing, what was old becomes almost new again.
Featuring over 20 vendors as well as custom lighting and handcrafted furniture made by Roger himself, the store features plenty of antiques, handcrafted items, and decor that you can't find anywhere else.
With a creative eye and beautiful workmanship, Roger creates some incredible pieces out of just about anything. Pictured here is a custom-ordered light made with a piano foot pedal as the light's base.
If you love all things Route 66, Pops Pop Up Shop sells plenty of memorabilia and collectibles including Route 66 soda bottles that you can purchase as souvenirs.
In addition to the store, every third Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. between May and October, Pops Pop Up Shop hosts the Howard Street Vintage Market. Featuring plenty of local vendors, activities, food, and a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, it's worth the drive to Pontiac.
