If there’s ever been a reason to visit Chicago, this is it. There’s a wonderful pizza museum in the city that will teach you all there is to know about this iconic food. From historical tales to vintage artifacts, this place is an all-inclusive timeline of America’s favorite food.
Nearly three billion pizzas are consumed in America each year. It’s about time there was an homage to it. Check it out:
The U.S. Pizza Museum is the answer to your dreams. It opened earlier this year in its current location in the South Loop, but it was actually founded in 2015. Its first public appearance was in 2016 at Chop Shop and it has only grown more popular since.
This unique museum was founded by a pizza and art lover who became obsessed with studying everything related to this iconic food. Over the years, the owner has collected a myriad of pizza-related items that are now on display for all to see.
The museum tells the fun history of pizza and how different styles became popular in America. You'll also get a glimpse of all the movies, books, music, and other media that are all about this savory pie.
Discover the evolution of pizza culture with interactive exhibits and vintage artifacts like pizza boxes, menus, toys, games, buttons, vinyl records, and even specific tools of the trade for making everyone's favorite food.
Also, remember that this place is not a restaurant, but there are a wealth of delicious places to find deep-dish and thin crust pizzas all around.
Don't forget to stop by the gift shop before you leave to take a bit of pizza history home with you. It is open Friday between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The U.S. Pizza Museum is located at 1146 S Delano Ct., Chicago, IL 60605, and you can learn more about it on its website or Facebook page. If you’ve ever been to this pizza museum, we’d love to hear from you. Please share your experiences and photos with us below in the comments.
