Created in 2016, this brilliant outdoor space was created to commemorate the historic 1966 march through Chicago's Marquette State Park. This is the first memorial in the city to honor the famous civil rights leader.

There are 12 of these statues throughout the United States. It depicts a woman in the pioneer days holding a baby with another child nearby. The expression on her face is meant to represent responsibility while her size and stance are meant to represent solidarity.
Constructed from steel and hollow concrete, this unique sculpture was dedicated in 1922. It is situated in Washington Park in Chicago and depicts 100 human figures moving in an arch. It represents mortality as well as the first 100 years of peace between America and Great Britain following the War of 1812.

Elijah Lovejoy was an abolitionist who ran a press that published papers on anti-slavery. His writings were so controversial that he became a target to slaveholders and his printing presses were thrown in the Mississippi River. An angry mob killed him in 1837 even though Illinois was a free state. His death attracted national attention, and even Abraham Lincoln spoke out on the matter. Though Lovejoy's body was originally buried in an unmarked grave, it was later exhumed to be buried at this memorial.
