I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Are you looking for an outdoor adventure? While you can always go hiking along the trail, why not take to the water and discover a water trail for a paddle adventure in Illinois? Along a tributary of the Fox River, you’ll find the Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail and it’s a one-of-a-kind experience if you enjoy being out on the water in a kayak or canoe.
Nippersink Creek is an 18-mile tributary of the Fox River. With its shallow and calm waters, it's an ideal body of water for paddling.
There are a few sites where you can launch your kayak or canoe. There's Keystone Road Landing or Pioneer Road Landing, both in Richmond as well as the Nippersink Canoe Base in Spring Grove.
Since the creek and wetlands surrounding it host a number of diverse fish, frog, and bird species, you can truly get up close and personal with nature along this water trail.
Paddling along the trail, you will cross under two different bridges. However, if the water depth is above 6.5 feet, the launches will be closed due to clearance issues under those bridges.
When conditions are optimal, you'll experience a nice, calm paddle along the Nippersink Creek Canoe Trail and you can truly enjoy being immersed in nature.
