Fall is usually so jam-packed with fun activities that we often have little free time. Slow things down a bit this autumn with a hike along the Olin Nature Preserve Outer Loop Trail in Illinois. The popular trail is particularly breathtaking drenched in the colors of fall, but it also features a few other surprises, including colorful wildflowers and a cascading waterfall.
Breathe in the crisp autumn air with a leisurely hike at the John M. Olin Nature Preserve, a quiet sanctuary among nature that spans 294 miles.
At just over 2.5 miles, the scenic trail is considered moderate, so be sure to wear comfy, sturdy hiking boots. Don't forget your camera either, so you can capture some of the stunning scenery.
While the trail is definitely worth hiking in any of the seasons, you'll definitely want to check it out during the fall when the foliage is at its peak. You'll be treated to some jaw-dropping views.
The Olin Nature Preserve closes for several months each year, from December 1 through March 31, so keep that in mind before heading over. The annual closure helps protect the preserve's wildlife.
