I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Illinois is one state that’s known for its pizza and, while there are many incredible places to grab a slice or a pie, Old School Pizza in Malta offers a bit more than just great food. Located in the building of a former elementary school, the unique decor featuring iconic pop culture memorabilia adds a fun atmosphere to those who dine here. If you haven’t heard of this pizza place located in a former school, you should make plans to go.
While some restaurants are known for great food and others for great atmosphere, Old School Pizza in Malta is known for both.
If you're here without kids, feel free to pull up a seat at the bar and order a beer, wine, or cocktail and look at all of the mesmerizing lava lamps behind the bar. There's no other place quite like this in the state.
Not only does the decor create an incredibly fun and exciting atmosphere, but customers also love the pizza! The extensive pizza menu has something for everyone.
Start out with your choice of ultra-thin, regular, double dough, or gluten-free crust, then decide which pizza you want. From plain cheese pizza to something more creative, you can find it on the menu or just build your own!
Every Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Old School Pizza hosts a cruise night. If you happen to have a classic or custom car, bring it on by and you can receive $5 off any pizza! Or just drop by to see all the awesome old cars. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the experience.
The fun doesn't stop at the nostalgic decor. Try your hand at one of the old-school video games you may (or may not) remember from childhood. Old School Pizza is as fun as it gets!
