I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Illinois is just filled with incredible breweries, many of which now occupy historic buildings around the state. From an 1800s opera house to a pre-Civil War house, a former newspaper building, and even an old bakery, you certainly have your pick of unique places to enjoy craft beer. If you live in or have been to Peoria, you may have seen a beautiful and impressive church located at the corner of Madison and Spaulding Avenues. However, this is no longer a church but the home to Obed & Isaac’s Microbrewery and Eatery.
Obed & Isaac's Microbrewery and Eatery occupies a former church with a long history. In 1889, the Romanesque Revival-style church, designed by W.W. Boyington, first opened its doors and enjoyed decades of worship until 1949.
The church was then purchased by the Electra Chapter for use as a Chapter home and to house a monument for the Donmeyer family who were donors.
The church building was sold again. Through the years, it was transformed into many different businesses from an event and banquet space to business offices, art and photography studios, and more. In 2015, the Conn Family fell in love with the space, purchased it, and in September 2016, opened their second Obed & Isaac's location.
Within this incredibly unique brewery location, a unique selection of craft brews awaits your taste buds. From the Flagship Beers menu, you'll find the smooth Ditzy Blonde, the Magical Unicorn Elixer IPA, and the Upside Brown Coffee Ale among others.
Spring and summer seasonal beers bring a red Strawberry Blonde accompanied by a fresh strawberry, Blueberry Wheat, and the refreshing Summer Saison light Belgian ale. Seasonal fall and winter brews include a Jack-O-Ale pumpkin brew, an Oktoberfest lager, and their Von Wolfenshtein Munich Dunkel Bock.
Aside from the incredibly tasty beer and cocktails, Obed & Isaac's has an extensive menu of delectable eats. Pictured here is the Stinger Burger piled high with onion rings, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, and bacon all on a pretzel roll.
