8 New Year's Resolutions That Are Difficult To Keep If You Live In Illinois
Everyone has New Year’s resolutions they are trying to keep, but some are more difficult to hold to than others. Whether you’re trying to get more sleep this year or live a more active lifestyle, residing in the Land of Lincoln can make it difficult.
Don’t fret, though. We’ve got some ways to help you work around these setbacks and stick to your goals. Scroll on for more details.

With so many wonderful restaurants and excellent cuisines in Illinois, this is one of the most difficult New Year's resolutions to keep for sure. Just about every restaurant in the state specializes in pizza, burgers, deli sandwiches, fried chicken, or some other comfort food that is just too good to resist. Our suggestion is to choose vegetable sides so that you're at least adding some nutrition to every meal.

With a bar on every corner and a brewpub popping up in every town, it's getting more difficult not to have a drink when you go out with your friends. Our state is full of popular places to drink, but if you're trying to limit your intake, consider only going to bars on certain days of the week.

With so many fun things to do in Illinois, this goal gets harder to do each year. Especially if you enjoy the attractions in and around Chicago, this goal can be difficult to reach. Our best advice is to make a budget and strategically determine how often you will go out and how often you will enjoy big vacations this year.

Many families are spread out all around the state (or country), and if you're trying to fulfill goals such as saving money, it can be difficult to get together often. Our advice is to text, call, or email more often, and make plans for when you will see each other again before you depart from a get-together.

There's a lot that goes on at night to keep us awake, but getting more sleep is a common goal that many would like to achieve. The clear skies all around Illinois make that very difficult if you're a star-gazer, and the exciting nightlife in Chicago makes it difficult if you like to party. Our suggestion is to try to go to bed half an hour earlier each night until you feel more rested.

Being more active is great for productivity, weight loss, and other benefits. The problem with trying to keep it part of your routine in Illinois is that if you like to be active outside, the weather often gets in the way. This season's unpredictable patterns have made it hard to keep up a regular routine. A workaround would be to find an indoor activity that you like almost as much as what you do outside or find a way to bring the outdoor activity inside.

While some portions of the state are obviously very urban, there are still many pockets that are not, and that can make connecting with new people difficult for those who want to make new friends. If you live in a small town or rural community, you might try joining a local club or looking into online communities where you can meet people from all over the world.

With two major airports right here in our own state, it seems like travel would be a breeze, but the cost and difficulty of getting to these places can be enough of a headache to prevent many Illinoisans from going on the vacations they most wish to take. Even domestic travel by car can be difficult, as it can take more than five hours just to leave the state. Our suggestion is to catch flight deals when they are low and use taxis to get into the city so that you don't have to drive or worry about parking your car.
