I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Some of the best places are tucked away somewhere away from the masses. These hidden gems may take some work to get to but when you get there, it’s worth all your efforts. Within Shawnee National Forest is Bell Smith Springs Recreation Area, an area known for its natural bridge, rock formations, canyons, and a pristine set of natural pools that is sure to be your new favorite place to swim.
Shawnee National Forest is home to Bell Smith Springs Recreation Area, one of the most beautiful parts of the park. With eight miles of trails, hiking is one of the most popular activities here.
Due to the unique flora and fauna, as well as the rock formations and natural bridge found here, Bell Smith Springs is a designated National Natural Landmark.
Along the system of interconnected trails, hikers will enjoy the canyons created by sandstone cliffs, fascinating rock formations, a natural rock bridge, and clear streams and springs hidden away in the forest.
The turquoise waters by the Devil's Backbone, the iconic set of massive boulders and a sandstone wall, is perhaps the best place to swim just because of the beautiful scenery.
