Parks all over the country are full of bridges, whether wooden or paved; it’s something we’re all used to seeing. However, hidden in Shawnee National Forest is a gorgeous bridge that formed all on its own! The Pomona Natural Bridge is a little-known point of interest in the park that makes for a fun short hike and a great photo opportunity.

This stunning forest covers the southernmost parts of Illinois, boasting 415 square miles of protected land. There are plenty of points of interest within the park, but this bridge is one of the most beautiful.

To find the bridge, drive south from Murphysboro on IL-127 for about 10 miles. Then, take a right on Pomona Road, and another onto Natural Bridge Road. Follow the signs; it’ll be easy to spot the trail head.
