Though Galena gets tons of attention for being an incredible Illinois destination (and it truly is), a nearby town has an appeal all its own. With fewer than 3,000 residents, Savanna is a charming little town surrounded by a surprising amount of natural beauty. Get your camera ready and take a trip there to be immersed in it all!
Savanna has a charming downtown, but the real beauty lies in the surrounding area.
Just beyond the edge of the town are rivers, lakes, forests, and more. But there's plenty to explore downtown, too!
Head out of town in any direction, and you'll hit something gorgeous.
Even unassuming ponds like this one are magical. Doesn't this look like the perfect place to read a book or have a picnic?
With lookouts like this at the nearby Mississippi Palisades State Park, you might spend all day exploring.
The mighty Mississippi River flows next to Savanna, creating some amazing views. Whatever you do, don't forget your camera when you go exploring!
Even Savanna's local parks are stunning.
Marquette Park is particularly amazing. Be sure to visit in the early evening for one of the most memorable sunsets you'll ever see.
The trains rolling through town only add to the charm.
BNSF Railway hugs the river, and when the trains arrive, it makes for a picturesque scene. Photographers especially love it!
Grab a canoe and get out on the river to really experience nature's beauty.
The only thing that can make the sunsets better is floating out in reflecting water while it's happening. If you're looking for something romantic to do while in town, this is it!
It's even beautiful in Savanna in the middle of winter.
It is almost unfair how gorgeous the area around town is throughout the seasons. You simply must visit to experience it in person.
