Ope! From the rural cornfields of DeKalb County, Linze is an Illinois native and true Midwestern gal who can make a mean bonfire and whip up a perfect marshmallow salad. Since 2014, her bylines and photography have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, and Block Club Chicago/DNAinfo Chicago, Only in Your State, and more. She has interviewed Dolly Parton, written about beloved diners along historic Route 66, visited the last Rainforest Cafe in the Illinois, and reviewed luxurious English manor-inspired hotels. Whether it's writing about a local gem or world-renowned establishment, Linze brings a heartwarming and historical perspective to each story, using facts, wit, and personal experience to impress upon readers the importance of culture, food, travel, and all things local. Her favorite destinations in Illinois include Starved Rock State Park, Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, the charming small town of Sycamore, and historic Rosehill Cemetery. When she's not writing or photographing, Linze enjoys gardening, spending time with her husband and pets, cooking, baking, and grilling, and relaxing with trashy TV.
From spring to fall, a day in the park is an idyllic way to spend time in the Illinois outdoors. It’s called the Prairie State for a reason — because fields of tall grasses and wildflowers thrive here, giving us a beautiful natural environment that begs us to come and enjoy it. Of course, nothing is better than time outdoors with my dog, so pooch-friendly locations are always on my radar. That’s why I love this dog park & model airplane field in Forest Park, IL — it’s a one-of-a-kind space with something for everyone.
Let’s take a look!
Miller Meadow, 2175 S. 1st Ave., is a massive park nestled between I-171 and the Des Plaines River in Forest Park, just outside Chicago.
The park has a 7-acre off-leash dog area surrounded by a chainlink fence where Fido can burn off those zoomies. You can access 2 miles of trails from the dog park, but the leash must go back on.
Looking for a place to picnic with a group? Miller Meadow also has eight picnic groves, four of which have shelters that can accommodate between 150-300 people, depending on location.
So, would you spend a day at this dog park & model airplane field in Forest Park, IL? What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Is there another park you love to go to? Tell us in the comments!
