Located in one of the most charming cemeteries in the state is a creepy mausoleum that is being opened for showings this summer and fall. Don’t miss the mausoleum tours in Peoria’s Springdale Cemetery.
Rarely available to the public, this massive space will finally let those without family members resting inside explore the inner walls. Check it out:
Springdale Cemetery is a beautiful graveyard that locals use for running, biking, and other leisure activities. It spans more than 225 acres and is the final resting place for more than 70,000 people.
The Springdale Mausoleum was originally only open for relatives while the public could enter on Memorial Day. Now, though, the Peoria Historical Society is teaming up with the cemetery to offer more mausoleum tours throughout the year.
Built in 1929, this massive mausoleum is made of marble, granite, bronze, and glass. It has stained glass windows, and the inside features Gothic chandeliers and a solemn aura.
Springdale Cemetery is vast. It is also home to a pet cemetery, a war memorial, and many other unique sights. There are also several local historical figures like William Hale, Thomas Ford, as well as many attorneys and historians buried here.
Mausoleum tours will take place most Fridays in August and October 2018 and last from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check out the website below for specifics dates of this rare experience.
