Not much lasts these days, especially not restaurants. Half of restaurants end up failing in the first few years. So it’s truly incredible that Village Tavern, located in Long Grove, has been in continuous existence since 1849. Here is a little bit about its incredible story.
Long Grove was once at the crossroads of two Indian trails. German settlers arrived in the 1830s, and it wasn't too long after that Village Tavern became a watering hole for Long Grove residents and passersby.
It has served as a watering hole for locals ever since. In its long life, it has been home to auctions and live music and overall liveliness.
Perhaps the best feature of the tavern is the authentic bar. It's a massive 35 foot mahogany bar. Check out all that original, dark wood. It just feels old and warm. It's a great place to have a drink with friends (or complete strangers).
In its current iteration, the restaurant has preserved its roadhouse style. It serves sandwiches and burgers for lunch. For dinner, it serves some pretty good steaks and seafood.
Come to Long Grove and learn more about the history of this great restaurant, as well as many other old shops. It's truly historic, and you'll have a blast learning about it.
