Yes, it's a tourist trap, but you need to take the step out onto the glass, particularly at night. It's an awesome view and terrifying at the same time.
4. Garden of the Gods (Herod)
These rocks are 300 million years old and are the crown jewel of the Shawnee National Forest area. This trail around the rocks offers one of the most stunning views in Illinois.
5. Grand View Drive (Peoria)
This was called the most beautiful drive in America. It is only 2.5 miles and meanders through some of the most beautiful country in the United States.
6. Mississippi Palisades State Park (Savanna)
This 2,500-acre park has 15 miles of trails that wander near the river. Interesting rock formations and caves make this wonderful to walk through.
7. Illinois Beach State Park (Zion)
This park has 6.5 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Gorgeous waters rush up onto the sand.
8. Kincaid Spillway (Murphysboro)
This local secret is a three-level cascade that spills out onto a pool. It is definitely a favorite swimming hole.
9. Cahokia Mounds (Collinsville)
This was once the site of the most sophisticated pre-Columbian civilization north of Mexico. They built amazing mounds as structures and spiritual centers.
10. Alpine Slide (Galena)
Ride down this 2,000-foot slide that goes along the Mississippi River. You get on a wheeled sled and zip down along the banks of the river.
