Not many people realize that the largest World War I reenactment in the country is actually held in Rockford, Illinois! Each year, Midway Village Museum puts on a two-day event that helps locals remember the historic war. The experience is truly immersive, so visitors will feel as if they have stepped back in time.
The unique event is held each April.
In 2017, it will occur on April 8th and 9th. Over 225 people portray soldiers and civilians over the weekend-long event.
This is the 5th year the museum has produced the reenactment.
Reenactors and visitors take over the museum's historic village and relive years past. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children, and free for museum members.
The program for the weekend is full of interesting things to do.
From viewing tanks and guns on display to touring a 150 yard trench, there's an endless amount of entertainment. You can also enjoy performers singing tunes from the 1910s.
The true draws of the weekend, though, are the large-scale battle reenactments.
Complete with pyrotechnics and a massive cast, this performance is truly impressive. Afterward, you can also pick up some real or replica WWI equipment and artifacts to take home.
