I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
It’s fall and, for many of us, it’s the most wonderful time of the year! With all the fun fall festivities along with pumpkin patches and apple picking, it’s sure to be quite the action-packed season. Located in the village of Malta in DeKalb County, Jonamac Orchard is a family-owned farm that features a pumpkin patch, a store with a bakery, a corn maze, a petting zoo, and, best of all, an apple orchard and cider house with a tasting room. Spend the day enjoying all that this wonderful farm has to offer, do some apple picking, and then sit back and relax with a glass of apple wine at the Cider House.
Jonamac Orchard is a 105-acre family-owned farm that's been around for nearly 40 years. Starting off with an orchard, the farm has expanded operations over the years to include a store, bakery, corn maze, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and a cider house, and offers numerous fall activities as well. It has become quite the fall destination for families around Illinois.
With over 20,000 trees and 30 different apple varieties in the orchard, including Jonamac, this farm is the place to come for apple picking. Check the website to see what varieties are currently available for pick-your-own.
U-pick bags are available at both the Store & Bakery and Cider House at the cost of $15. Each bag fits about a half peck of apples and anything you pick must fit in the bag. You are also allowed to eat an apple while you pick!
Inside the Cider House is the cider press that uses the farm's own apples to make fresh apple cider. In addition to the press, there's a tasting room featuring Jonamac Orchard's own apple wines, hard cider, and ale.
The Jonamac Orchard signature wines are made with apples grown on the farm. Order a glass or a flight and try the Honeycrisp, Caramel Apple, Apple Blossom, or Pomme Nouveau, among other selections.
No matter what you choose, a day spent picking apples and enjoying a glass of apple wine at Jonamac Orchard sounds like the perfect fall day!
