There’s an Italian restaurant in Du Quoin, Illinois that is known as the oldest pizza place in the state, and you’ve absolutely got to check it out. This pizzeria is known for its authentic menu items and an incredible atmosphere that is second to none. Scroll on for more details.
Open daily, Alongi's has been in business since 1933 and is known as a lovely place for romantic dinners and wedding receptions.
It has an excellent indoor and outdoor banquet space that guests can't resist. The walls are filled with old photos of past times at the restaurant and other historic events.
The restaurant was started by an Italian immigrant who came to America in 1902 and worked in the mines before opening a dry goods store. After Prohibition, the place included a 60-foot bar and liquor store and was known as a saloon.
Over the years, the family business was handed down and has morphed into a renowned Italian diner that locals love for its authentic eats, especially the pizza.
The menu consists of everything from pasta to salads to appetizers to soups to breadsticks and so much more. Everything is made to order to ensure freshness.
You'll also find calzones, flatbreads, meatball subs, tuna salad sandwiches, Italian beef sandwiches, and pizza with toppings like sausage, hamburger, onion, green pepper, pepperoni, anchovies, mushrooms, and more.
Alongi’s Italian Restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. as well as Friday and Saturday between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., and you can get more details on its website or Facebook page.
