9 Boardwalks In Illinois That Will Make Your Summer Awesome

There is something very exciting about walking down a boardwalk. Even though we don’t have an ocean, we have quite a few boardwalks to walk down in Illinois.
1. The Grove (Glenview)
The Grove is an area of gorgeous prairie and wooded lands. The boardwalk goes over the swampy areas.
2. North Park Nature Center (Chicago)
This center is a 46 acre nature preserve featuring woodland, prairie, savanna and wetland. This nice boardwalk goes over water.
3. Starved Rock State Park (Oglesby)
Starved Rock offers quite a bit of variety of types of trails. One of the best is this boardwalk.
4. Springfield
When you head to the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, there is a boardwalk going around.
5. Volo Bog State Natural Area (Grant)
This bog was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973. The boardwalk trail goes through the tamarack zone to the bog.
6. Lincoln Marsh (Wheaton)
This 150 acres is quite the retreat. Woodchip, limestone and boardwalk trails make their way through this park.
7. Lincoln Park Zoo (Chicago)
The Lincoln Park Zoo has a boardwalk, just built within the last few years. It runs through the pond and exhibits the natural habitat.
8. Millenium Park (Chicago)
The Lurie Gardens are bisected by a diagonal boardwalk. It represents the Lake Michigan seawall that bisects Grant Park.
9. Heron Pond (Vienna)
This boardwalk is incredible because it allows you to walk right among the giant cypress trees. Some of the trees are over 1,000 years old.
