Boo Castle Park, also known as "Dungeons and Dragons Park," is a privately-owned memorial park located near Crab Orchard Lake and a plethora of other creeks and lakes in the beautiful, southern part of our great state.
It was opened in 1993 by a man whose son, nicknamed "Boo," died in a car accident. Mr. Rochman bought a 3.5-acre plot of land across from his home and dedicated it as a park in his son's name.
The park is themed D&D because Boo was a huge fan of the game. Builders and painters were hired to construct the fantasy-inspired playground pieces from wood, stone, tile, metal, and cement.
The centerpiece of the park, the castle, contains a wealth of hidden doors and passages as well as bridges, tunnels, and stairs. You'll spend hours adventuring in and out of each and every crevice of this grand structure.
Along your adventure, you may run into knights, wizards, gargoyles, ogres, dragons, and more. Surrounded by trees and flower gardens, there's no end to the treasures you'll find at this majestic park.
More fun than most Renaissance Faires, the D&D park in Carbondale is something everyone should see. Whether you slay the dragon, storm the castle, or just walk the grounds, you'll be amazed by this fantastic place.
