The Illinois Horse Rescue of Will County is a nonprofit organization in the northern part of the state that promotes the well-being of both animals and humans. It uses a unique style of rehabilitation to save the lives of horses and people alike.
All the staff at this organization are volunteers and the place is 100 percent run on donations which go toward funding bedding, food, medical attention, and the educational and therapeutic programming.
This amazing horse sanctuary currently houses 28 horses with room for seven more in quarantine as they are brought in and evaluated. Each is given medical attention and their own treatment plan before being placed for adoption or in one of the on-site programs.

Programming at this horse sanctuary includes educational and therapeutic services. Equestrian therapy is available for at-risk youth, veterans, and kids and adults with developmental disabilities. The programs aim to help individuals overcome fears, build self-esteem, engage in a non-judgmental experience, and work on skills like time management, decision-making, and responsibility.
Educational programming is also available to the general public at this incredible place. Whether you schedule your own appointment or show up to an event, you'll get to learn how to groom and saddle a horse as well as have the opportunity to ride.
Horses are not the only lucky critters to be saved by this outstanding organization. It also operates a Barn Cat Program that started in 2012. It aims to take cats from barns, factories, and warehouses and re-home them.
You'll actually find all sorts of critters on-site at this unique place. Birds, bunnies, lambs, donkeys, reptiles, chickens, llamas, and many other animals in need have been the benefactors of this rescue organization.
This incredible horse sanctuary is always in need of donations. Whether it's money or supplies, your charity is much appreciated. One asset that is very helpful for the organization is land to grow hay to feed the horses.
