I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Nestled in the countryside among fields and farmland is a pioneer house with all the details and charm for those seeking a unique place to stay in a peaceful country setting. This is The Mix House, a preserved historic home that resides on the historic Parley Street in the small city of Nauvoo.
Built in 1846, this gorgeous brick home with arches around the entryway is 1600 square feet and named after the first owner and builder by the name of Phelps Mix. Over time, The Mix House has been lovingly restored to maintain many historic details while providing modern amenities to its guests.
In the dining room, you will find a wood-burning stove to use on colder days and a dining table that can seat up to eight people. It's a great space to entertain and share a meal with guests or play some board games which are provided in the house.
The Mix House features a main bedroom with a king bed and crib, while the second bedroom has three twin beds and a smaller bed for a younger child. Up to eight guests can sleep comfortably here.
A bathroom on each level of this two-story home is styled after the time period the home was built while providing modern amenities. The downstairs bathroom has a tub while the upstairs one has a shower.
There is plenty of space for children to run and play around The Mix House property. Long walks to neighboring farms are a great way to get some fresh air and be out in nature.
Have you stayed at a house like this before? Would you like to? Experience peace and quiet in a countryside setting and visit the Nauvoo Mix House website or Airbnb to book your overnight stay.
