I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
The history of Havisham House began in 1888 when construction was started by A.J. Rendleman who used bricks that were made on-site. Finished in 1892, this French-colonial gem was under his care until 1905 when it was sold to a family member. Over the years, ownership changed hands several times until recently when the home and its carriage house were completely restored into the luxury property it is today, all while maintaining many of the old-world elements that make it so charming. A stay here will likely be one you won’t soon forget and may never want to leave.
The Havisham House property is conveniently located in the heart of the best of what Southern Illinois has to offer: the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, Shawnee National Forest, Giant City State Park, Ferne Clyffe State Park, and the Tunnel Hill Bike Trail. It's the perfect location for an adult getaway with a significant other or group of friends.
Architectural and decorative touches like woodwork, chandeliers (11 total), and stained glass throughout add to the upscale ambiance of this luxury home.
The upstairs master bedroom is well-appointed with several windows to allow for ample natural light and a comfortable queen bed for a restful night's sleep. There is also a second bedroom and sitting room on the second floor.
If you have a big party and need more room, in addition to the Havisham House, the property's Carriage House may also be rented. It comfortably sleeps six and has two baths, a small kitchen, and a living room.
