I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
There are days when we just want to get in our cars, hit the road, and go for a drive. Whether it’s a drive along the Ohio River Scenic Byway or perhaps the Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway, a drive is the best way to see some of the state’s most beautiful areas. Grandview Drive is a scenic back road that was constructed in 1903. It's the epitome of a road you would take for a Sunday drive.
You'll be surprised at the scenery along this road that's just over 2.5 miles long. Even President Theodore Roosevelt referred to it as the "world's most beautiful drive" when he came to the area for a visit in 1910.
As the road rides along the bluffs, you'll be treated to panoramic views of the Illinois River Valley below. This historic drive is so remarkable that it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.
Enjoy a stop at the park on the bluffs overlooking Peoria Lake, a section of the Illinois River. Spend some time here and take in the breathtaking scenery.
