I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
It’s that time of year again, the time when families can enjoy apple picking, pumpkin picking, festivals, and other fall fun. Goebbert’s Farm in Barrington, Illinois provides the ultimate in family-friendly fun and seasonal treats during its annual Fall Festival. While you’re making plans this season, add the must-visit Goebbert’s Farm to your list.
In 1948, Goebbert's Farm had its humble beginnings as a roadside produce stand. Over the years, it added animals, pumpkins, a greenhouse, a bakery, and more. In 1979, the 18-foot-wide, 15-foot-tall "Happy Jack" pumpkin was added to the farm's silo and became a landmark in the area. Today, Goebbert's Farm is a destination for seasonal events in Illinois.
The Fall Festival at Goebbert's Farm runs through October 31. You can purchase tickets online ahead of time to guarantee entry to the attractions. This year's attractions include a corn maze, wagon rides, pony rides, a jumping pillow, pig races, gem mining, and even a 10-room haunted house designed for children, although it is still a bit scary.
The price of admission includes Animal Land, which features various exotic animals in addition to farm animals and birds. You can feed several of the animals here as well. The Giraffe Barn is another incredible experience families are sure to love with an up-close and personal experience petting and feeding a giraffe.
A feature you are guaranteed to only find at Goebbert's Farm is the pumpkin-eating dinosaur. Watch as the mechanical dinosaur picks up a pumpkin and tears it apart with its teeth.
Goebbert's offers plenty of festive fall treats as well. Head to The Red Barn Café & Bakery for lunch or dinner, before indulging in seasonal goodies like apple squares, pumpkin squares, homemade caramel apples, pies, and apple cider donuts.
