The hustle and bustle of large towns can really add to your stress level. Why not get away from it all–permanently? Well, you can still live in your state without living directly in a city. Here are nine towns in Illinois to move to so you can get away from it all.
Shridan has just under 2,5000 residents. It is located in Northern Illinois, and is part of LaSalle County. There are a couple of businesses in town, like a bar and bakery. But it's fairly small and quiet. Fun fact: the last man to strike out Babe Ruth retired and died here.
Ladd is located in Bureau County, up in Northern Illinois. There are only about 1300 people who live here. As shown in the photo, the large hill in the center of town might be the biggest thing going on. The hill resulted from Ladd's mining history.

Hollowayville only has 84 (really) people. And its land size? Just .05 square miles. There is one business, a tavern called "Hollywood and Vine." And the town has one attraction: "The Stairway to Nowhere," a vantage point from which you can see what is going on at the tavern.

Watseka is pretty close to the Illinois-Indiana border, in the Northern part of the state. It's about an hour south of Chicago. About 5,000 people live in Watseka. The setting is definitely rural, but parks and recreation is decent and schools are good.

Griggsville has just under 1,300 people. It is located in Pike county, which is in West-Central Illinois. It's right between both the Illinois and Mississippi rivers, which means it can get pretty humid. The town gets very pretty during the fall, and it is part of the Fall Color Drive. Rochelle is only 80 miles from Chicago, but you feel like you are away from it all. The population is under 10,000, which isn't small, but there is plenty of space to spread out. The city is located at the intersection of several highways, but people just cross on through. There are lots of granaries holding corn and wheat.

McClure has only 400 people, and is located way at the bottom of the state. It is in Alexander County. Only a few businesses remain in town. One of the biggest attractions is the McClure (yes, those McClures) family house, which is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
