Nothing will take you back to a simpler time quite like drive-in movies. There’s an iconic drive-in theater in Belleville, Illinois that is full of history yet still showing the latest and greatest films you’ve got to see.
Make this summer unforgettable with a trip to this unique drive-in. Check it out:
Established in 1949, Skyview Drive-In Movie Theater in southern Illinois has had a fascinating history. It is well known for its double screens, playground, and ability to attract classic cars.
With the development of Cinemascope, which allowed for movies to be shot with a wide angle, wings were added to the screen in 1953, but two years later a tornado destroyed them. The storm caused extensive damage to the playground as well.
The same year they were destroyed, 1955, the screen and playground were rebuilt better than before. A second screen was added to allow for two main features and two double features each night.
There isn't a bad place to park at the last remaining drive-in movies on Route 66. No matter which screen you choose, you'll enjoy an authentic experience that will take you right back to the 1950s.
The way it works is guests listen to the movie audio on broadcast through their car stereo. Some even choose to bring a portable radio and sit outside on lawn chairs.
A full schedule of newly released films is playing all summer long at Skyview Drive-In Movie Theater on Route 66. The first features typically start at 9 p.m. while the second one begins just before 11 p.m.
