I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
The small city of Galena is home to hundreds of historic buildings, but the oldest here is the Dowling House. Built out of limestone in 1826, it also happens to be the oldest stone structure in the state of Illinois. While the Dowling House is historic, it’s also known to be haunted. Now a museum, visitors have their choice of a historical tour or a haunted tour through one of the local tour companies in town.
Have you visited Galena’s oldest house yet? If you have, let us know about your experience in the comments. To learn more, visit the Dowling House website and Facebook page. And if you’re interested in taking a haunted tour, head to The Haunted Galena Tour Company website.
While the Dowling House is a must-visit in town, there’s much more to explore in Galena. Read this article to learn more.
