Ope! From the rural cornfields of DeKalb County, Linze is an Illinois native and true Midwestern gal who can make a mean bonfire and whip up a perfect marshmallow salad. Since 2014, her bylines and photography have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, and Block Club Chicago/DNAinfo Chicago, Only in Your State, and more. She has interviewed Dolly Parton, written about beloved diners along historic Route 66, visited the last Rainforest Cafe in the Illinois, and reviewed luxurious English manor-inspired hotels. Whether it's writing about a local gem or world-renowned establishment, Linze brings a heartwarming and historical perspective to each story, using facts, wit, and personal experience to impress upon readers the importance of culture, food, travel, and all things local. Her favorite destinations in Illinois include Starved Rock State Park, Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, the charming small town of Sycamore, and historic Rosehill Cemetery. When she's not writing or photographing, Linze enjoys gardening, spending time with her husband and pets, cooking, baking, and grilling, and relaxing with trashy TV.
My dogs are my best buddies, so I love having their companionship even outside of the home. Even though they’re underage for drinking, finding a restaurant or brewery with pro-pet policies is always a huge bonus. Fortunately, with so many amazing places to grab a beer in Illinois (or just dine in general), there are typically some great options to choose from. But this dog-friendly brewery in Darien, Illinois stands out for its love of animals, exceptional beers, board games, and welcoming atmosphere.
Miskatonic Brewing Company, 1000 N. Frontage Road, is a local brewery tucked away in a nearly-hidden industrial space, complete with a spacious, string-lit outdoor patio.
The craft microbrewery creates its own beers in house, and the magic can often be seen from a seat at the bar. While you sip, grab something off the game shelf for some friendly competition.
A major plus of this taproom is that it's dog friendly! Not only dogs, but "cat, bat, and rat"-friendly. Pets must stay leashed next to you, with water bowls and treats on the house.
The brewery makes a number of flagship beers, like the West Coast Wizard, that are always available on tap, but also experiments with other rotating brews, like The Gardner, a wheat ale with lemon peel, vanilla, and lavender.
You'll find everything from pilsners, lagers, IPAs, and stouts, to fruity ales, sours, and farmhouse-style ales — so there's a perfect pint for every beer drinker's preference.
Though the brewery doesn't serve its own food, you're welcome to bring your own or order from a local restaurant. There are also a number of food trucks and food pop-ups that stop by and sling delicious bites.
