There’s something so alluring about a speakeasy, isn’t there? A hidden-away place to grab a drink with a loved one while the rest of the world melts away is the kind of stuff you see in movies and read about in novels. Yet it’s the exact experience you can look forward to when you plan a trip to the Drifter in Chicago. Hidden away below a historic tavern, this speakeasy in Illinois is a must-visit. Here’s more on this hidden gem and how you can find it:
The Green Door Tavern is an iconic Chicago landmark. In fact, it used to be frequented by Chicago gangsters. Today, it's the restaurant under which you'll discover one of the city's most unique speakeasies: the Drifter.
In order to access the Drifter, you'll need to find a knicknack-covered door inside. Through the doors is a portal to a bygone era and a bar that's existed since the '20s.
As you can imagine, this spot is famous for its creative drink menu. Guests are invited to choose from custom-made tarot cards that describe each unique libation.
No matter your reason for visiting, you'll quickly agree that this speakeasy is an experience like none other!
