You know you’re a true Chicagoan if you’ve done these 15 things. Some pleasant and some less so, these are all just part of living in the city.
We may not like to admit it, but those of us who have lived here a while have done all of these things. Keep scrolling for more details.
1. Caught a game at Wrigley Field.
You haven't truly experienced the city until you've seen one of our most famous teams play ball at one of our most famous stadiums. It only maybe counts if you saw a concert here once.
2. Sang along to the Cubs song.
Even if you only know the first few lines, it's hard not to join in when someone starts this Chicago anthem. Most commonly sung around Wrigley Field, this tune can be heard across Cook County.
3. Stuck in traffic on LSD.
Not acid - we're talking about Lake Shore Drive. This busy and popular road is certainly beautiful, but its hard to notice when you're driving and trying not to hit the person in front you.
4. Cut someone off in traffic.
It sucks when it happens to you, but sometimes you have to do it to other people. No one is going to let you over, so you have to be aggressive on Chicago roadways, especially during rush hour (which is like most of the time).
5. Got on the wrong train.
It has happened to everyone. Sometimes, you just aren't paying attention and go to the wrong platform or stand on the wrong side. Luckily, in Chicago, it's an easy fix - just go back the other way.
6. Taken a #beanselfie.
If you're in the area, it's hard to resist a quick trip to Cloud Gate, and then it's hard not to snap a quick shot with whomever you're with. I mean, everyone else is doing it, and it's your city, so you deserve a selfie with this big mirror more than the tourists do.
7. Walked the Chicago River.
The Chicago Riverwalk is a vital part of pedestrian life in the city. Offering gorgeous views you'd never expect to find here, this is the only gym many of us need.
8. Walked the Mag Mile during the holidays.
Walking the Magnificent Mile anytime of year is a must, but especially during the holidays, this street is extra special. Even if you've just passed it in a taxi, you've likely seen Macy's and other retailer's incredible storefronts.
9. Eavesdropped on tourists.
It's hard not to when they are so loud! Some tourists will sit around speculating about how trains work and where things are... and it's funny to hear them get it wrong.
10. Day drank.
All true Chicagoans are guilty of this (and no, church wine doesn't count). From brunch mimosas to Wine Wednesdays, it's 5 o'clock somewhere and you can drink whenever here.
11. Shoveled your car out of its street spot.
It's bad enough that four feet of snow fell and drifted on your street, but then the plow comes and walls your car in like a brick. The only way out is with a shovel. Hopefully, it's not stuck in your trunk under feet of snow.
12. Put ketchup on a hotdog.
Admit it! You've tried it at least once, and it was good. Chicagoans may claim to only eat these things with mustard, but most won't even think twice if you use something else.
13. Stepped out on the Skydeck.
It's scary, but there's no better way to see the city. Every true Chicagoan deserves to get a load of this view and witness the world from a new perspective. Climb (or take the elevator) to the top of the Sears (Willis) Tower for the best views in town.
14. Protested.
True Chicagoans are passionate about big issues. From Black Lives Matter to the Women's March, this city shows its pride by supporting its more oppressed.
15. Posted food to Instagram.
In a city like Chicago, it's hard not to post pictures of the amazing food you find. With famous pizza, the best burgers, and other sandwiches, we're all guilty of this one.
