One of the most awe-inspiring and popular tourist attractions in the city is the Chicago Skydeck. A glass floor more than one thousand feet above ground allows you to see Chicago like never before.
Whether you’ve lived here all your life or just like to visit, this is one of those attractions you must try at least once before you die. Keep scrolling to find out why it’s so cool.
The Chicago Skydeck is almost all the way at the top of the Willis Tower, though most still call it by its former name, the Sears Tower.
Regardless of what you call it, Willis Tower is the second tallest building in the United States, standing 1,730 feet high (counting its antenna towers), and is the twelfth tallest building in the world. It's home to about 100 different companies and offices.
1,353 feet above the streets, a couple of glass ledges extend four feet out from the side of the building.
Guests take an elevator up to the 103rd floor, where tall, wide windows let you see the city from a whole new angle. It may take a little courage to step out onto the glass-bottomed floor, but it is totally worth it.
Couples and families must make reservations at least five days in advance, though due to its popularity, you'll have to book out further than that. A table for two costs $250 and a family of eight will spend $1000 for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
There was that time it cracked, though. Seriously, no one got hurt or was even in danger.
The skydecks are made with more than one layer of glass, so that if and when this happens (due to temperatures changing too quickly) there are others to back it up. Typically, the skydeck is updated with new glass and whatnot to ensure that it holds strong forever, so you're always safe.
The Willis Tower Skydeck is located at 233 S Wacker Drive on the 103rd Floor, and you can get more information on its website or Facebook page.
